Funky Little Fellows

On Tuesday night we had put the boys to bed and all was well until we heard Aron let out a blood curdling scream. I ran upstairs expecting to comfort a bad dream or something but as I got to his crib I smelled something and it clicked in my mind what it was just as I picked him up and thankfully before I pulled him close to me. He had spilled the graham crackers and it scared him of course. He’s never done that before. Kris and I bathed him, changed the sheets and did all the necessary clean up, hoping that it was a fluke thing. Of course it wasn’t. We went through it again about an hour later. We went back to bed and I kept one ear awake. Sure enough I heard him whimper an hour after that and ran to the scene to wash and wipe some more. Poor little guy was exhausted and angry at all this hubbub his tummy was making. I was very thankful for the extra bed in his room. I was up and down with him most of the night and he was some better by morning. Throughout the day yesterday he was tired, slept a lot and clung to me when he was awake. He did have a couple more tummy tantrums and I tried to keep things low key. By late afternoon he was begging for food and I allowed him a little…and then a little too much. He went to bed last night and sometime between 7:30 and 8:30 he spilled the graham crackers again. I didn’t hear the cry because I was watching the church service on the internet. I found the mess when I went upstairs to put Owen to bed. Once he was bathed and his bed transformed once again he slept through the night with no issues.

This morning he has a slight fever but has handled his very light breakfast well so far. Ivan, who did not eat dinner last night, spilled his graham crackers just before he bit into breakfast. I still don’t know if he’s really sick too or if his hunger and the smell of scrambled eggs just caused his tummy to get upset a little. He barely had anything to hurl and has acted fine since…begging me to let him eat his eggs even. But toast and honey is all I’ve let him eat.

Something sort of funny about Ivan…after I had cleaned him up he started crying and said…”I wanted to throw up in a bag.” I certainly would have preferred that as well. I gave him a grocery bag and told him that it was his for the day…if he needed to throw up again he could use his bag. He sat down on a towel on the couch with a stuffed animal and his bag and watched Sesame Street.

So that has been our adventures of late. Hopefully things will be a little more normal tomorrow. Owen has a birthday party to attend on Saturday that he’s very excited about. The host has included Ivan in the invitation so hopefully he will be well enough and this funkiness won’t spread to Owen.

I haven’t been doing a lot of crafting this week but this afternoon my friend Gabrielle is planning to come to the house and work on some sewing. I will probably be helping her more than getting my own stuff done, but I can at least get a start on our next Girls In Stitches demo. project.

  1. Maybe there’s a bug going around. I woke up at 2am last night sick to my stomach. YUCK. Poor little baby. I hate it even more for babies as they can’t possibly understand the turmoil their body is going through. Not to mention they don’t have the means to run to the bathroom when the “sensation” comes on.

  2. Yuck! Oh, I’m so sorry. There is nothing I hate more than the stomach flu – for my children or for myself. I hope some rest is coming your way soon.

  3. I’m laughing right now only because I read Christy’s comment wrong. Instead of “I hope some rest is coming your way soon”, I thought she said “I hope *the rest* is coming your way soon”! Horrible Christy! 🙂

Truly, that is NO FUN. It never really seems fair for it to happen to a baby who can’t figure out what’s going on. 🙁
