Fearful and Wonderful

“For You did form my inward parts; You did knit me together in my mother’s womb.

I will confess and praise You for You are fearful and wonderful and for the awful wonder of my birth! Wonderful are Your works, and that my inner self knows right well.

My frame was not hidden from You when I was being formed in secret [and] intricately and curiously wrought [as if embroidered with various colors] in the depths of the earth [a region of darkness and mystery].

Your eyes saw my unformed substance, and in Your book all the days [of my life] were written before ever they took shape, when as yet there was none of them.” Psalm 139:13-16 (Amplified)

To my limited knowledge this version of the Bible is the only one that says it this way. The rest of them tell me I am fearfully and wonderfully made. This one says He is fearful and wonderful. The focus leaves me and chooses Him.

I will never discount the other translations, but I will say this is my favorite.

I want to be admired, I enjoy it way too much, but more and more, I want to point the admiration on Him. Fearful and Wonderful made me, formed, knit, intricately and curiously wrought me.

As if embroidered with various colors. I am His work of art. His signature is on me and I am 1 of 1. The first in a series of only me.

Fearful and Wonderful saw my unformed substance and wrote down the days of my life before I lived out my story.

Fearful and Wonderful is He.

The God who saw my every move before I thought about any of them and still prescribed me to His kingdom as useful, healing, worthy and precious.

I don’t really care what anyone else may think that I am…Fearful and Wonderful signed this work and I am His.

  1. Awesome to realize this! If only more Christians understood this- God views them as his beautiful unique creations and loves them much more than we even love our own children. and that is alot of love! Most Christians walk around feeling inadequate and condemned. This keeps them from reaching their divine purpose and full potential.
