What She Couldn’t Give Up

A wholesome young lady named Lola,
Changed her diet to fruit and granola.
With no fat on her plate,
She would have lost weight,
But she couldn’t give up her sweet cola.

I considered an ending where poor Lola loses weight marries a rich African prince and ends up dying of ebola, but felt it might be too depressing. Ebola is just a much more fun rhyme than cola.

Well, although Ivan seems to be as well as can be, yesterday brought even more excitement from Aron. He seemed better for a while, but soon I realized he had the yucky backside splurts (I really hate the word diarrhea). He had the runs…blowouts…frequent fecal evacuation…you get the idea. I gave him bits to eat and drink here and there but didn’t want to overdo it. He still had a very low fever and acted tired and started to seem a bit lethargic. I watched him closely and noticed his fingers and his lips seemed purple. I tried not to get too worried but googled it, called Becky and didn’t seem to find much of an answer about it. So I called the doctor’s office and spoke to the nurse. She recommended I go to the emergency room because it could be a sign of dehydration. I wasn’t happy about that, but of course I didn’t want to mess around with something like dehydration in so small a body. Right before we left he hurled again, which sort of solidified my resolve to get him looked at. I think now he just drank his water too fast on his still settling tummy.

Kris met me at the ER and we were already through most of the visit in about a half hours time. When the doctor came in, Aron’s fingers and lips were looking pinker again and Dr. Sharp was able to encourage us in how we’ve been treating Aron. Apparently we are doing everything right and we’re genius parents. He offered to give him a little stomach settling medicine before we left but when I offered that I have ginger at home he seemed to think it would work just as well. Wow. So, that’s what we did. He is in bed again…he has only had a little trouble since he’s been home and has been sleeping a lot. I’m giving him smaller doses of liquids and tiny bits of food which makes him very unhappy but lessens my laundry burden.

Last night as we were putting the older boys to bed I was holding Aron and he was trying to let us know that he was hungry. I asked if he wanted some water and he nodded but then started saying “Sssss….bar” He’s been saying bar when he wants a cereal bar, which is pretty cute in itself. This time he really wanted me to know what he was talking about and tried to say cereal too. It was terrible cute. I gave him two small pieces of a strawberry cereal bar and some watered down lemon ginger tea along with half a ginger tablet crushed up. He seemed happy enough. Later he fell asleep with his head on my shoulder and I didn’t want to move for fear of ruining the moment. He’s always been a lay me down in my bed sort of kid. He’s affectionate but not one for rocking or prolonged cuddling. His little cheek next to mine was so sweet. I hate when he’s sick but I’ll extract some good out of it if I can.

  1. Poor baby! Isn’t it great when a doctor tells you you’re genius parents? I love that. I’m so glad you got a good snuggle out of the deal. Those fleeting moments are what make the whole rest of it worthwhile.
(I nominated you for one of those silly blog awards. Please don’t feel obligated to play the game, just know I like you! It’s on my most recent post)

  2. Congrats on being geniuses! I’m glad he’s doing better.

Where do you get your ginger, the tablets, that is? I’ve discovered it does an amazing job of curing motion sickness, but when I looked for it last week before going to VA, I only found very limited amounts. I don’t want the best cure ever to disappear from the shelves.

    Have a great week!

  3. Thanks for the info. Maybe I’ll check a health food store or 2 around here before ordering it. Didn’t think of that. I hope the little guy keeps getting better. Sorry it’s taking a while.
