How Did That Happen?

How did nearly a week pass without my picking up my keyboard and blogging? I guess that so much was happening I just didn’t have time. And although a lot was happening, little was worthy of posting so as the poor blog was neglected I was equally bored with my business.

I did get to spend part of a day with Madison. She came on Thursday and joined the boys and I on our monthly trip to KY. We visited the Amish and she was quite surprised that people would choose to live the way they do. Her first instinct was to assume they were poor, but upon further notice realized that no one had to dress like that. I never told her that they don’t have indoor plumbing…it would have been too much I think. It was a nice morning and if I had not been plagued by a headache…I think I would have been a much better host.

Friday night was orientation for Owen’s pre-school. The whole family went to the school and got to meet his teacher and see his classroom. He was thrilled with it all and to be honest…so was I.

On Saturday our Sunday school class went canoing. It was an adventure. I was not expecting the thrills we encountered. I have been on many canoe trips. I have never fallen into the water…until Saturday. I’ve never seen anyone else fall in the water…until Saturday. Kris blamed himself for our spill and though I wasn’t angry at him, I was very frustrated by the whole thing. There were two novice canoe riders with us and both of them also took spills. They have vowed to never canoe again. I felt terrible for them because I love canoing. And honestly, still had a good time despite my little swim. I wish I could tell you all the details but some of it is just too crazy. Anyway…I think this was the worst stretch of river for a canoe that I’ve ever been on in a canoe. It was more like a rafting river in terms of obstacles and currents. We will definitely go to a different place next time.

Yesterday, we looked at houses again, but this time we went to the ridiculous end of the spectrum and toured two open houses at million dollar locations. WOW!!! I love looking at houses. These two were on the lake and overlooked gorgeous views and toyed with our concept of what is needed in a comfortable home. A three tier deck with hot tub and lake access might just be necessary for my happiness if I were to see too much of it. A large patio and gorgeous pool, attached to a 9,000+ square foot home seems almost logical when you see the things you could do with all that room. Ah, the reality is of course that we can’t get those homes and therefore it is necessary to shoot a few holes into the hot air keeping us afloat and come back to earth for a little while. It sure was fun having that view for a few hours though. Maybe someday.

Today was Owen’s first day of school. He was only there from 8:15 to 10:00 but he enjoyed it and wasn’t ready to leave. I was able to go to the grocery store in that time with only two kids and though I had a great morning I think it has stressed me a bit more than my mind has been aware. My back is hurting today. I think it’s more than just school…I did row in a canoe for several hours on Saturday…but I think the combination of “little things” has triggered some muscle tension. So…on the upside of that, I’m lounging on the new furniture and blogging in my time off.

Speaking of blogging…I started a new blog for our Sunday school class. There’s nothing there yet but I will be updating it when I can with pictures of some of our events. Hopefully it will be a useful tool for our group.

  1. I’m glad it was a fun canoe trip. Sometimes falling in can be the funnest part of the day, I’ve found:) It takes me back to some pretty entertaining MYF trips as well as a trip to the Boundary Waters a few years ago. That’s more of a major undertaking, but still a lot of fun!

  2. Yay – I subscribed! Now I can keep up with YOU!

I, too, love to canoe… though I’ve really never been. Ha! I just know I would love it.

You tell Owen thank you and that he can call Abbey “pretty” anytime. I will have to let her read that when she gets home from school!!!

I always love getting your comments. They make me happy. So, thanks!

(and yes, I remember ALL too well having a 4, 2 and baby. THAT’S why I’m loving having an 8, 6 and 4 yr old! Ha!)

  3. I like canoeing, with water like that I would have probably preferred a raft or kyak.

Hooray for Owen’s first day of school-that’s very exciting! And you know I’m a fellow house looker, right? Love the ones you saw…maybe one day?

  4. Yay Owen! Awwww – my heart just aches when I remember the big first-days. I love his smile in the photos on his blog -so excited and proud 🙂
