We had a busy day yesterday. We picked up Elizabeth and Pierce to go to the zoo and when we got there it was packed. I mean…had to park closer to Nolensville Road than the entrance, packed. There were several school buses there and just lots and lots of people. We didn’t do too badly considering the throng and were able to stay ahead or behind most of the large groups. Pierce and Owen enjoyed most of it…each taking their turn at being bored or completely disinterested. We ate lunch at a table near the old Elephant exhibit and then meandered through the rest of the park stopping if anyone was excited about something. We were very tired near the end. I allowed Owen to walk the last leg and he did much better than I expected. He kept up pretty well and had to be told to stay with us only a couple of times. He stuck his little chin out and pulled his shoulders back and walked fast. It was pretty cute. The boys chatted all the way back and when we started to leave Pierce’s house, Owen began to fuss and point to where Pierce had been sitting as if to say we had forgotten someone. I promised him we would all play together again one of these days.

After Kris got home we decided to do the whole Cinco de Mayo thing and eat Mexican food. We drove up to El Okay Corral and had a nice dinner among another big crowd. The service is never spectacular there and last night was a testament to their inability to run the wait system. We didn’t fair too badly but the family at the table next to us were fit to be tied and asked for the manager more than once. I guess I sort of feel like you have to give people a break sometimes, but maybe I’m too nice.

When we got home we decided to plant a few trees. The last time we went to the zoo they had a few vendors at tables in different areas who were touting different aspects of nature in regard to the theme of the day which was migratory birds. One guy had a booth with several buckets of tree saplings that he was giving away. They were all the same type of tree, a bald cypress, and he was telling people to take as many as they could carry. We took four trees and have now planted them along the back of our property parallel to the back of the house. Everything I’ve read about this particular tree says they are very easy to grow…so if they don’t grow…I guess I really truly have no green thumb. These are not the type of tree I would have chosen to begin landscaping in our backyard, but they were free and I spaced them apart so that I could possibly put something a little more decorative in between in the future. Hopefully they will grow well and I won’t run over them with the lawn mower or anything.

Tonight we have guests for dinner and I have a little cleaning I need to get done. I am looking forward to having Kristy and Timothy back next week and I’ll start babysitting on Monday as well. Should be a big time.

In other news…Kris found out Wednesday morning that the company he has worked for over 6 years is being acquired by another dialysis company. There is a lot to think about a lot we could be fearful about and a lot we could complain about…but why? There are so many good things that could happen because of this, there is certainly no time to waste on the negative. We know who our provider is and I can’t think of one time He has let us down. We won’t know much about the status of Kris’ job for months but we are completely hopeful and anticipating a great outcome.
