Yesterday…Today…and What Makes Me Happy

We are experiencing busy rainy days. Yesterday, Owen and I were gone all day and we were both so tired by the time we got home. He did pretty well on the nap time he got in the car. My naps in the car weren’t as productive.

We went to our last Bible Study in the morning and then drove up to Becky’s to drop Owen off while I went to lunch with Pastor Sandy and Vanessa McGee. We met at Olive Garden and discussed the upcoming Night of Laughter. Sandy was telling us what she thought was the funniest type of humor which sparked a memory for me and I told her a joke that applied to her criteria for funny. She wasn’t kidding. She literally screamed out loud in a burst of laughter that lasted us all the rest of the day. Okay…we’ll use that.

After lunch I picked up Owen at Becky’s and we went Amber's Kitchento Springfield to the Walmart and then to my friend LaDonna’s house to drop off a few things. She is making my Crab and Chicken Bisque recipe to give me feedback so that I can send in a perfectly refined recipe to the Southern Living recipe contest. My dear friends have helped me out and I am completely grateful for all their constructive advice. Tisra made the recipe last week for her family and Amber looked it over and gave me some good comments just from looking at it. Amber doesn’t have a kitchen right now as hers is being completely made over due to a plumbing leak that destroyed her kitchen floor. Her new kitchen is going to be so great! Anyway…I also picked up a baby tub from LaDonna to take to Melissa but I haven’t taken it yet. We drove home from LaDonna’s and I put groceries away while Owen whined. As soon as possible I left that job and grabbed a blanket and pacifier and rocked my boy. He settled in contentedly but didn’t want to actually sleep, so we just rocked and both enjoyed the peace of it for a while. I had no desire to fix dinner so when Kris got home he offered to take us out. We called Kevin and Erin (Kris works with Kevin) and met them at Royal Thai. Great food and enjoyable company. We’ll have to do it again some time.

I have decided to take a job babysitting. I believe I mentioned the possibility of this before but I can’t remember for sure. Samson and Ann Boyd are in our Sunday School class and had their first child recently. Ann is ready to get back to work and since they live very close to us, they asked if I would consider watching little Joey for them. I will try it for a couple of months and see how it goes. If I or they feel that it’s not working out then they will look for something else and I will continue to watch him until they find something suitable. I expect it to be a lot of work, but I am hoping that it will not be stressful. I am very curious to see how Owen reacts to this change. Ann is supposed to find out today when she can go back to work for sure and whether or not it will be full days to start out. She had a very rough birth and has had a long recovery, and though she seems to be doing fine, the doctor doesn’t want her to jump in too fast.

Today…I have phone calls to make. Doesn’t sound that bad, but man I hate making phone calls. I don’t like talking on the phone much at all. Sometimes it’s more enjoyable than other times. When Kris calls to tell me something that could have waited but he was eager to tell me…that makes me happy. Receiving phone calls isn’t as bad as making them. Calling someone I don’t know that well, to try to coordinate a time to meet with other people that I don’t know that well…that doesn’t make me happy. Sometimes you just got to do what you got to do.
