Everyday Life

Yeah!

This morning Owen woke me up cheering for who knows what. I looked at the clock and it was 7:15 already. I couldn’t believe he wasn’t screaming to be let out of his crib. He went to bed early last night. He was getting upset about everything by 6:30 so we knew it was bedtime. He went to sleep by 6:45 and I did hear him at 5:00 but I could tell that he just needed his pacifier so I went in and shoved it in his mouth and went back to bed.

Owen has been going to bed without the slightest fuss for about a week now. For a long time I have been putting him down in his bed still awake and he would cry for a little while, no more than 10 minutes and then go to sleep. Now, I just lay him down, say goodnight and walk away. He just lays there and goes to sleep. I still cuddle with him before we lay down and usually read a little bit and sing two songs and then lay him down, so he does get some nighttime attention, but I don’t rock him anymore and I don’t swaddle him really. I sort of wrap the blanket around him but not securely. He’s so sweet. After reading I usually lay him back in my arms and ask him if he wants to sing a song to which he replies from behind his pacifier “yeah”. He still doesn’t usually say no if he doesn’t want something but he will start whining a little after he says yeah. Funny kid.

Nap time is still a process. I can’t just lay him down because he won’t take his nap if I do. He’s still just not tired enough I guess. Naps are important to my schedule as well as his mood…so I insist upon them. I rock him to sleep for naps. I’m sure there has got to be a better way but I haven’t figured it out yet.
